Padres Military Appreciation

Posted in 2024 in

The US Military presence has shaped San Diego into what it is today. While sometimes major sports throw a nod to our servicemen and servicewomen that feels more like show, in San Diego our pride and gratitude is sincere.

In San Diego, the military is not only our protectors, they are our neighbors, our friends and family. Our workers and our leaders. The military has shaped our landscape and our culture with its key ports, training centers, and the heroes who bring them to life.

San Diego Padres and the Military

Given the close ties between San Diego and the military, it follows that this would extend to our baseball team as well. This is most evident in the literal Military Appreciation events at the stadium, which began in 1996. It was the first of its kind for any national sports team.

Military Appreciation Sundays

Every Sunday home game at Petco Park, the Padres recognize and honor the individuals who serve our country. Through their partnership with USAA, active duty service members, veterans, and their families receive a 25% discount off tickets on Sundays. Every Sunday is dedicated to a different aspect of the military. It is an important tribute to all who serve our country.

Sunday, March 31 vs. San Francisco Giants – Military Opening Day
Sunday, April 21 vs. Toronto Blue Jays – Military Salute to Women in the Military
Monday, May 27 vs. Miami Marlins – Memorial Day Military Salute
Sunday, June 9 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks – Military Salute to USS CARL VINSON
Sunday, July 14 vs. Atlanta Braves – Military Salute to U.S. Marine Corps
Sunday, August 4 vs. Colorado Rockies – Military Salute to Military Aviation
Sunday, August 25 vs. New York Mets – Military Salute to the U.S. Navy
Sunday, September 22 vs. Chicago White Sox – Military Salute to POW/MIA and Veterans
Often on these games you will see uniformed military filling entire sections in the upper deck of Petco Park. The team commemorates this with a special Fourth Inning Stretch featuring the Marine Hymn played by stadium organist Bobby Cressey.
